In 1998, Lt. Wes Maroney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department developed the MiG-21 Plane Pull for Special Olympics. He got the idea from talking to officers from Maryland while attending the FBI Academy.
The Plane Pull has turned out to be the funnest and most entertaining fund-raising event for Santa Barbara County Special Olympics. In 2001, the Plane Pull began using a 46,000 pound Phantom F-4 and invited 5-member teams to compete against each other for bragging rights as the strongest and fastest team on the Central Coast.
The event is held each year in September and in conjuntion with the annual War Bird Fly-in at the Santa Maria Airport.
For more information on the Santa Barbara County Plane Pull, contact Lt. Wes Maroney.
Mark your calendars for July 26, 2008 for the 11th Annual Fire Truck Pull at the Santa Maria Radisson, next to the Santa Maria Airport.
We've converted from a F4 jet to a KME Fire Engine for the 11th annual Pull, but this time it's a Fire Truck!
Entry fee is $200 for a 5 person team and sponsors are welcome!
